abstractThis paper outlines the opportunity presented by a new wave of water monitoring efforts that are being driven and lead by communities. The paper includes five leading Canadian case studies of Community Based Monitoring that illuminate the challenges and opportunities associated with CBM. These examples, and similar efforts across Canada, are helping to inspire a new vision of how we can work together to pool our knowledge and better understand and protect the health of Canada’s rivers, lakes and aquifers.
