authorLiving Lakes Canada; Kat Hartwig
abstractLiving Lakes Canada was invited by Global Nature Fund to submit an article about the Columbia Wetlands located at the headwaters of the Columbia River in B.C. to the French journal, Liaison Énergie-Francophonie. Structured in four parts, this issue of the journal for which Ms. Anne Lévesque (Canada) and Mr. Paul Judex Edouarzin (Haiti) provided scientific coordination as guest editors, draws up a state of knowledge on wetlands, including lake ecosystems of La Francophonie, and their roles in climate change mitigation, resilience and adaptation strategies, in freshwater supply, food security and sustainable food systems, internationally recognized biodiversity hotspots (or hotspots), and opportunities for sustainable economic development. It also highlights the challenges faced by wetlands and presents how the protection of these spaces, including lake ecosystems, improves the implementation of international and transboundary agreements. From Mexico to Madagascar via Haiti, Canada, Djibouti, Senegal, Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, DRC or Rwanda, committed professionals have fed the articles in this issue with their knowledge and experiences.
