High contrast black and white winter scene. Exceptionally cold day. Had to act fast!

Much of the forest near the lake or on islands, I believe, has never seen modern industrialization.

In winter the lake (all lakes actually) makes eerie sounds. This is, of course, from the lake moving, fluctuating, shifting. Hard to explain the sound. It’s something like hitting an old box springs with a spoon.

In early winter bison cross Astotin Lake. They go single file with a large bull well in the lead. Slowly he goes. Tentative. Careful. He knows what’s at stake. It’s a powerful sight.
