Living Lakes Canada’s Columbia Basin Groundwater Monitoring Program is facilitating a workshop, titled Promoting Groundwater Literacy in the Columbia Basin, for students at Selkirk College. During this workshop students will have the opportunity to apply their groundwater knowledge learned in class, to real world settings. Students will gain hands-on experience with groundwater monitoring technology, tools, and equipment as well as exposure to best practices for collecting groundwater levels. This workshop will guide students through the groundwater data collection and review process as they engage with a Volunteer Observation Well located on campus.
With this workshop we aim to provide students with an understanding of the connection between groundwater and surface water and enable them to better protect this essential unseen resource.
This work is funded by the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. The Volunteer Observation Well located on the Selkirk College campus in Castlegar was also established with funding from TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and Columbia Basin Trust.
