The dynamic conditions of the environmental non-profit sector can be comparable to the ever-changing currents and eddies of a flowing river. Like many organizations within this space, Living Lakes Canada relies on individuals who can adapt and thrive within these shifting conditions.

Claire demonstrated this adaptability during her time with Living Lakes, providing broad support as Indigenous and Government Relations Coordinator. In this role, she coordinated the Applied Reconciliation program, which guides engagement with Indigenous Peoples across all of Living Lakes’ initiatives.

As part of the government relations team, Claire also engaged with ministers and government staff, communicating Living Lakes’ work by preparing and delivering presentations, writing letters and backgrounders, and planning and attending conferences. She supported strategic development within the organization as well, working alongside the Executive Director Kat Hartwig on program development.

Claire is now a Systems Ecologist & Engagement Specialist at ESSA Technologies Ltd, where she collaborates across several dynamic teams on projects spanning freshwater and marine ecosystems. Her work includes science communication, ecosystem restoration, climate change adaptation, and fisheries and aquatic resource management.

“My time at Living Lakes was central to developing my facilitation and engagement skills that I apply in my current role at ESSA,” Claire shared. “The foundation of all environmental work lies in the relationships that support it. Cultivating trust and acting with reciprocity are invaluable to fostering meaningful collaboration, which is the key to success in addressing environmental problems.”

Thank you for your relational and adaptable approach to furthering the protection of freshwater, Claire!
