Biomonitoring with Living Lakes Canada

Our biomonitoring program is dedicated to empowering communities interested in monitoring and protecting their local rivers and streams and the webs of life that rely on them. We provide training and support tailored to community needs, with a focus on environmental education and hands-on monitoring efforts.

WHAT WE DO

Training Courses and Workshops

We collaborate with various groups, including community water stewardship organizations, First Nations, government agencies, and academic institutions, to coordinate and offer customized training courses and workshops. These sessions cover a range of topics, including Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) certification, Sequencing the Rivers for Environmental Assessment and Monitoring (STREAM), and Targeted environmental DNA (eDNA) (eg. iTrackDNA). Please note that our courses are available for groups only, and are dependent on funding. We can also assist with fundraising efforts if needed.

Biomonitoring Activities and Services

We provide biodiversity monitoring services to support aquatic ecosystem conservation and restoration projects. This includes biological monitoring, water quality assessment, hydrometric monitoring, riparian assessments, and monitoring for species at risk and aquatic invasive species.

Ecological Restoration

Our team offers support and services for restoring riparian and foreshore habitats. We work closely with partners to identify restoration priorities and implement tailored solutions, such as native shrub planting, soil remediation, habitat enhancement, and pre/post restoration monitoring.
