From Wildfire Preparedness to Hidden Groundwater, What’s New at LLC

 In All, Newsletters

2026 is already shaping up to be a big year for Living Lakes Canada. Across the country, communities, classrooms, and partners are working with us to better understand and protect water, from wildfire preparedness to groundwater monitoring and youth engagement.

Through our ongoing water science and community engagement work, we continue to offer critical insights into the climate conditions that are unfolding on the ground, helping to build community climate resilience. Here’s a look at what we’re working on and where we’re headed in 2026.

Pen Pals for Water

Pen Pals for Water is a unique classroom exchange that connects grade 5/6 students across Canada to explore how water connects communities, cultures, and ecosystems. The program encourages curiosity, empathy, and a broader understanding of Canada’s diverse landscapes and communities.

Designed to be flexible and easy to integrate, the program fits naturally into science, English/ELA, or social studies curricula. Teachers who participate receive resources to support meaningful engagement with water and to create opportunities for storytelling, local exploration, and peer connections across provinces and territories.

Living Lakes provides program materials and logistics, and covers associated shipping costs, making it easy for classrooms to participate. Interested in learning more? We would love to hear from you.
