Tomba Paagman
Alumni
From fieldwork to international project management, Tomba has built on the foundations of her time with Living Lakes Canada to shape a career in environmental sustainability.
During her internship with Living Lakes, Tomba examined whether stream water availability can keep pace with domestic consumption and forest fire suppression demands. Guided by Hydrology Consultant Paul Saso, Tomba’s thesis report would go on to investigate how forest fire suppression and available resources intersect with climate change predictions.
Beyond research, Tomba gained hands-on experience as a field technician, wading through waterways to collect water quality and quantity data during the summer of 2021. She also contributed to regional initiatives through collaborations with the Columbia Wetlands Stewardship Partners, Columbia Basin Water Monitoring Collaborative, and the Youth Climate Corps Program, supporting efforts to monitor wetland and stream health.
Building on this experience, Tomba went on to obtain her MSc in International Land and Water Management at Wageningen University & Research. She now works with Campus at Sea, a collaborative innovation hub based in The Hague, where she supports innovative projects focused on renewable offshore energy, sustainable food systems, and marine nature development in the North Sea.
In addition, Tomba serves as a volunteer agricultural consultant with PUM, a non-profit organization, where she advises lower‑income small and medium‑sized enterprises internationally.
Tomba’s work reflects a continued commitment to advancing sustainable water and land management. We wish Tomba the best and hope the lessons learned from her experience with Living Lakes continue to guide her career within the environmental sector.
