Living Lakes Canada selected for 1% for the Planet’s Featured Partner Guide

Where Profits meet Protection: Working together to support People and the Planet

 In All, Blogs

While on a fishing trip in 2001, Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, had a big idea: businesses should give back to the very ecosystems that sustain their profits. This realization sparked the creation of 1% for the Planet in 2002, mobilizing companies and individuals to invest in environmental protection. Today, Living Lakes Canada is proud to be part of this impactful network.

We’re delighted to announce that, among over 5,000 members, our organization was selected for a new 1% for the Planet initiative called the Featured Partner Guides. Featured Partner Guides are carefully curated lists of environmental organizations within 1% for the Planet’s Impact Targets aimed at showcasing standout organizations across the 1% for the Planet network.

Living Lakes Canada is included in the Freshwater Ecosystems Featured Partner Guide, reflecting our exceptional contributions to protecting freshwater ecosystems and significant impact. A gold star now marks the Living Lakes Canada partner page as an official recommendation within the 1% for the Planet network.

Since its inception, 1% for the Planet has inspired over 3,000 businesses and individuals worldwide to donate 1% of their annual sales or salary directly to approved environmental partners. To date, this initiative has seen more than $672 million in donations.

As a verified partner, Living Lakes is eligible to receive donations from businesses and individuals partnered with 1% for the Planet. Currently, Valhalla Mountain Touring and Guests On Earth support Living Lakes through this network. Looking ahead, we aim to increase our partnerships and further our water science and stewardship work through this new 1% for the Planet program.

Explore the Freshwater Ecosystems Featured Partner Guide and Living Lakes’ partner page and consider supporting ongoing work to protect rivers, lakes, aquifers, wetland and watersheds across Canada.
