In this presentation, hosted by Evergreen, Living Lakes Canada Program Manager Camille LeBlanc will discuss the National Lake Blitz program and its innovative approach to amplifying lake stewardship across Canada. By providing test kits, online training and resources, and an interactive map sharing volunteer observations, the program equips participating citizen scientists with a firsthand understanding of how climate and other impacts affect the health and biodiversity of the lake they choose to monitor. Since 2021, 327 volunteers (including returning ones) have collected 2,503 data points on hundreds of lakes in 10 provinces and two territories. Drawing from lessons learned over the National Lake Blitz’s three-year journey, Camille will focus on how data collection and the program’s use of technology is connecting individuals to their local waterbodies and promoting improved water literacy through monitoring while fostering a national network of lifelong lake stewards at the community level.

This event is part of Evergreen’s Community Solutions Network Innovation Workshop series. It will not only showcase innovative tools and practices driving climate resilience and community development but also provide a platform to learn from Ontario communities about their experiences in implementing cutting-edge technologies along their waterfronts.
