Join Living Lakes Canada on a 2-day Safe Work in Swiftwater Training course in Kimberley B.C.!
This training is essential for anyone working in or close to swift water.

Living Lakes Canada has a few spots available as we train our staff ahead of the field season.

Times: 8-hour days, exact times TBD
Location: Kimberley, B.C. (Western Lodge, Kimberley & the St Marys River)
Cost: $625 + tax, payment due at time of booking

Training Overview
This 2-day course delivered by Raven will provide the knowledge and techniques for employees who need to work in or near swift water. It focuses on assessing risk and pre-planning to prevent incidents from happening, covers the use of appropriate PPE, and provides simple and safe techniques for assessing sites. Techniques for self rescue and rescue of co-workers will also be addressed. Students will be provided with strategies to address working in small teams with minimal equipment.

Deliverables
• Safe Work in Swiftwater – Training and Certification (2 days)
• First day of the course is classroom-based, while day two is held on river.

Course Content
Day One – Indoors session, Kimberley
• Rescue 3’s philosophy
• Swiftwater dynamics
• Personal equipment
• Risk management
• Site Safety Assessments
• Pre-planning for working near water
• Drowning and medical conditions related to swiftwater
• Introduction to ropes, knots and gear
• Basic river signals
• Throw bagging

Day Two – On St Mary’s River, Kimberley
• Shallow water crossings
• Equipment crossing
• Rivers edge fall restraint systems
• Swimming skills
• Hazard avoidance
• Swimming rescues
• Rope work and systems
• Swiftwater rescue scenario

Equipment provided:
– Helmet
– PFD
– Drysuit
– Throw ropes and other safety equipment to use for training

What you will need to bring:
– Lunch, snacks and water for the day
– Warm clothes to go under your drysuit, spare pair of clothes and socks
– Water shoes to wear over drysuit booties (old running shoes, wading boots)
– Sunglasses
– Sunscreen
– Any personal medications you might need for the day

Please note that overnight accommodation is not provided.
