abstract | The Yukon is a vast territory with numerous creeks, lakes, and rivers that are environmentally, socially, and culturally important to people and wildlife. However, there are currently large knowledge and data gaps on lake health with no long-term coordinated lake water quality monitoring initiatives in the territory (World Wildlife Fund - Canada, 2020). The overarching objective of the Yukon Lakes Monitoring Overview Project is to understand the current and historic lake monitoring efforts and explore the possibility of a coordinated lake monitoring approach in the Yukon. This report presents our findings from the desktop review, focus group, interviews, and survey, which formed the basis of the recommendations brought forward in Section 4.0. These recommendations were made to help the Government of Yukon understand the current needs for lake monitoring and potential approaches that could be taken towards coordinated lake monitoring in the Yukon. |
