| abstract | BGC Engineering Inc. (BGC) was retained by the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) and Living Lakes Canada for the Collective for the Lower Elk Aquifer Restoration Society (CLEAR) to conduct geophysical surveys near Elko, BC, to better understand subsurface conditions in the area where water from the Elk River may recharge the Lower Elk Aquifer and to investigate nearby features historically identified as sinkholes. The objective of the geophysical investigation was to characterize the geometry of the sinkholes and investigate the potential for groundwater flow pathways within the floodplain. To meet this objective, BGC collected electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and mobile transient electromagnetic (TEM2Go) data. The scope of work, methodology, results, and interpretation from the geophysical investigation are presented herein. These results can be used to guide future field investigations and help assess where side channel construction or enhanced groundwater recharge from the Elk River to the Lower Elk Aquifer may be most practical. |
