PROGRAM GOAL
Freshwater shapes our communities, cultures, and daily lives. One Day of Action for Water is a flexible, national initiative led by Living Lakes Canada that brings together community-led activities across Canada into one shared celebration of impact.
This initiative connects independent local efforts by individuals, stewardship groups, and other partners into a shared, visible moment for freshwater. Activities can range from lake monitoring and shoreline cleanups to educational events and stewardship projects. It’s about elevating community leadership, strengthening water literacy, and showing what’s possible when people take action locally.
By joining One Day of Action for Water, you:
- Take part in a Canada-wide celebration of freshwater
- Showcase the work happening in your local community
- Gain access to support and resources
- Strengthen water literacy and hands-on stewardship
- Tap into a national network of water stewards
HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
- Already organizing a freshwater event? Register your event to be recognized nationally without changing your timing or format. Multi-day projects, ongoing initiatives, and single-day events are all welcome.
- Interested in hosting an event? Living Lakes can offer resources and support to make hosting easy while keeping leadership local.
- Looking to participate? Join an existing event or take part independently and be part of a national celebration.
However you participate, your contribution helps strengthen community leadership, inspires ongoing stewardship, and reinforces Canada’s shared commitment to protecting freshwater.
WHAT ONE DAY OF ACTION FOR WATER MEANS
One Day of Action for Water is an inclusive initiative open to everyone living in Canada. The goal is simple: help people connect to the lakes, rivers, wetlands, shorelines, and drinking water sources that shape their communities, while building an ethic of care, understanding, and shared responsibility for freshwater.
“One Day” isn’t limited to a single date or 24-hour period. It’s a flexible invitation to take action for freshwater in a way that fits your schedule and be part of a Canada-wide celebration of community-led freshwater stewardship.
