Vibrant and brimming with enthusiasm, PJ was an excellent addition to the Living Lakes Canada team, who quickly progressed to a Water Monitoring Coordinator position. In this role, PJ planned and led fieldwork expeditions across the Columbia Basin.

PJ helped collect samples and take measurements from alpine and subalpine lakes, and performed hydrometric monitoring in many creeks throughout the East and West Kootenays. As part of the Cottonwood Creek Revival Project in Nelson, B.C., he established field methodology and collected water quality and coliform data from this popular waterway alongside eager community volunteers.

Outside of fieldwork, PJ assisted with data management, research report writing, fundraising and grant applications, and facilitation of workshops and presentations. In an interview with the Telus Friendly Future Foundation, he described how his work with Living Lakes empowered him to take an active role in protecting water in a changing climate.

PJ left Living Lakes to complete his Bachelor’s degree at Thompson Rivers University, with the end goal of becoming a Registered Professional Biologist. “My work with Living Lakes really provided me with so many technical skills, both in the field and in the office. I am certain that this work will help me achieve my goal of gaining a professional designation,” said PJ.

Reflecting further on his experience with Living Lakes, PJ shared, “There is so much power in collaboration, amazing things can happen when good people in the community come together.” He continued, “I’m looking forward to seeing the fruits of our labour come together over the next few years, especially in the Cottonwood Creek Restoration Project!”

Thank you PJ for bringing your positive energy and thoughtful hands-on approach to your work with Living Lakes!
