Having spent most of his life living, working, and studying on the East Coast of Canada, Ben brought a unique appreciation for the B.C. landscapes and waterways to his work as Living Lakes Canada’s Columbia Basin Water Monitoring Framework Program Coordinator.

In this position, Ben supported the Columbia Basin Water Monitoring Framework by conducting hydrometric and groundwater monitoring fieldwork, writing technical reports, and assisting in securing program funding. By providing high-quality data to inform sustainable water management practices, Ben helped to ensure that Living Lakes’s initiatives aligned with both scientific priorities and local needs.

Ben shared, “My biggest takeaway from my time with Living Lakes was an understanding of the value of combining community input and ecological knowledge with robust scientific methods. This approach fosters trust, promotes inclusivity, and ensures that water stewardship initiatives are both impactful and broadly supported”.

Ben also noted that this experience with environmental project coordination, stakeholder collaboration, and data-driven water management practices has prepared him well for a career advancing environmental stewardship and responsible resource management.

Thank you, Ben, for your contributions to the long-term stewardship of freshwater ecosystems in the Columbia Basin.
