Mark Elder has been living, working and playing in the Kootenays since 2003, working primarily in the forestry sector in the field of wildfire mitigation planning. As a Kaslo resident, Mark serves as a member in a variety of projects in the area, including RDCK Area D Advisory Planning Commission, Kaslo Outdoor Recreation and Trails Society (KORTS), Kaslo Community Fitness Cooperative (Founding board member), Kaslo Mountain Bike Club, Kaslo Search and Rescue as well as the Powder bound/Lost Ledge Ski Club.

Mark has been the Project Coordinator for the North Kootenay Lake Water Monitoring Project (NKLWMP) since 2018, and officially joined the LLC team in May 2020 when NKLWMP joined the LLC portfolio of projects. Mark supports NKLWMP through administering the project, raising funds, and coordinating volunteers.  In the winter months, he coordinates the high-elevation snow surveys — a fun adventure he loves to share with other backcountry enthusiasts.
