Watershed Monitoring & Restoration: Keeping Aquatic Invasive Species in Mind

REGISTER HERE

Water monitoring and restoration work are key when it comes to maintaining, conserving and protecting watershed security, but so is understanding how the proliferation of invasive species can influence the health of a watershed.

It is increasingly important that water monitoring and restoration practitioners become aware of invasive species in their watersheds. Aquatic invasive species (AIS) in the watershed can have significant effects on water quality and aquatic ecosystem health.

In this webinar co-hosted by Living Lakes Canada and the Central Kootenay Invasive Species Society (CKISS), Laurie Frankcom, Education Program Coordinator with CKISS will talk about their impacts, species ID, prevention, and best management practices when working around water, performing water monitoring or restoration work, and how to report sightings.

Paige Thurston will introduce the range of water monitoring programs that Living Lakes Canada is delivering in the Columbia Basin, including the Columbia Basin Water Hub and associated Water Monitoring Framework, and will speak to why AIS is important to this work.
