Environmental DNA (eDNA) training will be delivered to Simpcw Resources Group and Simpcw First Nation. This training will be delivered by the Living Lakes Canada biomonitoring team in collaboration with Jared Hobbs (J. Hobbs Ecological Consulting Ltd.) and the Helbing lab (University of Victoria) as part of the iTrackDNA project. Participants will learn applications and considerations of using eDNA methods while gaining practical experience with sample collection.

eDNA is an emerging method of characterizing biodiversity that is increasingly being used to survey aquatic taxa. This effective, cost-efficient and non-invasive method relies on the detection of genetic materials in aquatic ecosystems using laboratory analysis of water samples to detect DNA from the target taxa.
