Sarah was fortunate to grow up on the south coast of B.C. on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Following an early passion of biological sciences, Sarah completed a degree at the University of British Columbia in Integrated Sciences, specializing in neurobiology and psychology. Throughout her degree, she made environmental stewardship and outdoor recreation a regular part of her self-care and community care. This combination - and sometimes juxtaposition - of academia and human and land connection was realized, and the community science spark was officially ignited.

Sarah went on to pursue a Diploma in Fish, Wildlife and Recreation at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Since then, she has enjoyed growing her skillset and contributing to a number of agencies and organizations, including as a Park Ranger with BC Parks, a Species-At-Risk Technician with Birds Canada, and as a Volunteer Coordinator with the BC Marsh Monitoring Program. Sarah is energized about monitoring, restoring, and conserving our natural environment and empowering people and communities around her to do the same.

When Sarah is not assisting the Biomonitoring team at Living Lakes Canada, she is watching birds along the shores of Kootenay Lake with her partner, attempting to improve her sprint triathlon times, or trying out new Kootenay-based activities like Nordic skiing and white-water kayaking!
